Robben Island Tour 12th Jan 2020 Cape Town, South Africa
Posted on January 26 2020
Off the coast of Cape Town is Robben Island it has been declared a World Heritage Site and the tour takes 3 and a half hours. The ferry ride to the Island and returning to V&A Waterfront across Table Bay displays a spectacular view over the city,
Table Mountain and its coastline. Robben Island’s allure lies in its rich and wretched history. South Africa’s first democratically elected president – Nelson Mandela – spent 18 years of his 27 years in prison on Robben Island.
Easily the most famous of the island’s political prisoners, Mandela was not the only notable inmate – South African presidents Kgalema Motlanthe and Jacob Zuma also spent time there.
